root fingers + tranquility

How beautiful is this video? It makes my 5 year old imagination think of all the woodland creatures (fairies included) that are so lucky to call Mother Nature their home.

Happy Monday! I think of the new week as a fresh start and eating healthy is definitely always on my to-do list. I don't think of myself as an uber healthy person when it comes to food but I do try my hardest.

Check out my video to see what I've currently been loving!

Semi-Healthy Snacks Ideas:
Greek Yogurt
Almonds
Popcorn
Hummus & Veggies
Fun-sized Candies

Peanut Butter (currently loving Peanut Butter & Co.)

friday + fun

I've always been a bit envious of everyone that finds it so exciting that it's Friday. Working in theatre, weekends are not only not a time to rest but it's usually double as crazy with two show days. Of course the grass is always greener on the other side. When I'm painting faces or pinning wigs on Saturday and Sundays, I'm wishing I could have a normal M-F "9-5" and then when I'm working in an office setting, I'm craving being in a more creative environment where I can walk around and interact with people. Even when I've strayed away from the theatre world, I seem to always be in school for something and have weekend classes. For the most part, I've always enjoyed what I'm doing and obviously have chosen to get other degrees and I wouldn't change anything I've done even with the sacrifice of my beloved weekends. If only there was a whole weekend to just hang with friends, brunch to my heart's delight, window shop for hours on end, and just stroll the city until my feet could no longer carry me, how wonderful that would be. I must say, not having complete weekends free (even day offs at all during tour) has really made me appreciate the days I can just do nothing or anything and everything, depending on my mood!

Tonight I'm getting my passport and venturing out of Manhattan and frolicking with the hipsters of Brooklyn. Just kidding, I love BK, just wish it was closer to my upppppptown apartment. Saturday will be spent brunching, doing much much needed laundry, catching up on some work due Monday, and having a relatively mellow night so I'm fresh faced and bright eyed for a full day of glitter and trannies at Broadway's Priscilla Queen of the Desert!

What have you got planned this weekend? Something fun + adventurous or calm + relaxing?

lobstas + oystas

If you find yourself in NYC, specifically at the Chelsea Market, make sure you stop by The Lobster Place. This place has got it all in regards to under the sea creatures; fresh fish, lobsters, oysters, clams, mussels, sea urchin, clams, sushi, you get the point. If you can't find it at The Lobster Place, you're not going to find it.

Walking around the hustle and bustle of this well managed and efficient seafood shop, there is something very organic and peaceful about all the shucking, slicing, chopping, and hum of chit chat. There is seating all around the front, most people having a big ol' red steamed tail in their hand or slurping up some steamy chowder.

As inconvenient as this location may be from my apartment, it's well worth the trek to satisfy any seafood craving. With its location being in Chelsea Market, it's easy to make a lovely day of it. Starting with a stroll along the High Line Park, followed by some retail therapy at the extensive shops in the market, you're sure to work up an appetite and have a feeding fit for any native New Englander.

oatmeal + milk

Last night I had great plans to go out with the girls for a few drinks but a raging headache kept me in bed. I finally decided to get up to take a shower in hopes that the warm water beating on my back would help my aching head. As I got out of my 20+ min steam room, I noticed just how horrific my skin was looking. Broken out and dry - the WORST combo. Every product you put on a blemish dries out the other areas and every product to combat the flakes leaves your pesky pimples looking plumper than ever.

I then remembered my trusty ziplock bag of ground oatmeal and powered milk. The perfect mask for my troublesome face situation. The oatmeal is gentle and soothing while the milk acts as a natural lactic acid, just enough exfoliation for my skin to handle. After 10 mins of letting my clumpy concoction set and dry on my face - voilĂ , I literally felt like a new woman rinsing the mask away. My skin looked much calmer and felt 100 times smoother.

Next time, I definitely wont wait for my skin to look so shabby to use my tried and true favorite mask. Click the video below to check out my YouTube video I made a while ago, all about milk masks.

faith + hope

I loved this picture as soon as I saw it. As with any new year; there comes positive changes, self renewal, and resolutions. We all have the ability to make whatever we want to happen in this life come to fruition - so, take what you need (from deep within your self, other people’s examples, the universe, however you look at it) and make it happen.

Happy 2012 - Let’s make it the best one yet!
